Meet Mark Lykins...
Mark Lykins has served as a United Methodist pastor and Missionary for 25 years. He has served in North Carolina, in Liberia, and in Argentina. Currently, he is serving as a missionary in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Mark has a Masters in Social Work from Ohio State University and a Masters in Divinity from Duke Divinity School.
Step by Step with Jesus is a life-long dream for Mark who also served with his wife, Mey. Mey is a native Dominican who has worked in La Romana and in Argentina for 5 years. After residing in the United States for several years with her husband, Mark, she has now returned to the Dominican Republic with Mark to serve as a missionary to her own people.
A Message from Mark...
"Here in the DR, so much time is spent just focusing on survival. In the US, we have so many choices- what food to eat, where to live, which things to buy and what we will do with our time off. In the DR, most of the day is spent trying to find food, preparing meals, carrying water, and seeking transportation. There is also a lack of electricity and running water. This is what makes life difficult for people in the DR- the lack of choices or options. However, there is a simplicity in life and a sense of community among the neighbors that is difficult to find in the US. There is a simple joy that I am learning to experience and treasure with the people here. While it isn't always easy, it is a pleasure to serve Jesus in this place."
